## About Alpe di Siusi

The Alpe di Siusi is the largest high-alpine meadow in Europe — 57 square kilometres of gently rolling plateau at around 2,000 m, with the Sassolungo and the Sciliar rising straight out of it.

For skiing it is close to ideal beginner and intermediate terrain: wide, sunny, gently angled and high enough to hold snow. Cars are restricted on the plateau, so it is quiet in a way few ski areas manage.

## Where lessons start

One of the best places in the Alps for a first week. The plateau is enormous, nothing is steep, the snow is reliable and there is no fast through-traffic. Reached by cable car from Ortisei or Siusi.

## Getting there

Bolzano is around 40 minutes, Innsbruck about two hours. Cars are restricted on the plateau itself — you arrive by cable car.

### Is the Alpe di Siusi good for a first ski week?

It is one of the best places in the Alps for exactly that. The plateau is enormous, gently angled and at around 2,000 m, so the snow holds, nothing is steep and there is no fast through-traffic. You reach it by cable car from Ortisei or Siusi, so a first lesson starts with a ride up and ends with a ride down.

### Can I drive up to the Alpe di Siusi?

Not in practice. Cars are restricted on the plateau during the day, with access only for guests of the hotels up there and only outside the closure hours, so most people leave the car in the valley and take the cable car from Siusi or Ortisei. That is what keeps it so quiet, and it is part of the appeal.
