## About Alta Badia

Alta Badia is the part of the Dolomites people recommend when someone says they want wide, immaculate, gentle blue runs and enough of them to fill a week. It is on the Sellaronda circuit, so the big day out starts from the doorstep, and the villages — Corvara, La Villa, San Cassiano, Badia — are Ladin and quietly prosperous.

It also has the Gran Risa, one of the most feared giant slalom slopes on the World Cup circuit, which sits oddly alongside all that gentleness and is worth watching in December.

The area has an outsized reputation for mountain restaurants, several with Michelin stars. This is not incidental: lunch is a structural part of a ski day here.

## Where lessons start

Corvara is the practical base: central on the circuit, with a good beginner area right by the village and lifts in three directions. The learning terrain here is about as forgiving as the Alps offer — wide, consistently pitched and meticulously prepared.

## Getting there

Innsbruck about two hours, Venice and Verona around three. As everywhere in the Dolomites, the last part is road over passes that occasionally close.
