## About Bormio

Bormio is a Roman spa town that became a ski resort, and both halves still matter: the thermal baths have been running since antiquity, and they are the reason a hard day here ends better than a hard day anywhere else.

The mountain is built around a single enormous descent. The Stelvio is one of the most feared downhill courses on the World Cup circuit — steep, icy, relentless — and it will host the men's alpine events at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The vertical from the top of Cima Bianca to the town is around 1,800 m, one of the biggest in Italy, and the run is essentially continuous.

Bormio also sits on the Alta Valtellina pass with Santa Caterina and Livigno.

## Where lessons start

Bormio is better suited to intermediates than to complete beginners: the mountain is essentially one long fall line and there is not much gentle terrain at the top. Santa Caterina, on the same pass a short drive away, has friendlier learning slopes and is where families often base themselves.

## Getting there

Milan is around three hours up the Valtellina; Bergamo and Verona are similar. The Stelvio pass road is closed all winter, so the only approach is from the south.
