## About Courmayeur

Courmayeur sits at the Italian foot of Mont Blanc, eleven kilometres and one tunnel from Chamonix, and the contrast between the two is the point. Where Chamonix is a mountaineering town that happens to have skiing, Courmayeur is a handsome old guiding village with a pedestrian centre, a serious lunch culture and pistes that mostly run through larch forest.

The piste network is modest — this is not a resort you go to for kilometres. What it has is excellent off-piste, particularly on the Val Vény side, and access to the Vallée Blanche from the Italian end via the Skyway Monte Bianco, one of the most spectacular cable cars anywhere.

## Where lessons start

Beginner terrain is limited and this is not the obvious place to start from zero. What it is very good for is the step after — an intermediate who wants to ski trees, or a confident skier taking a first proper look at off-piste with someone who knows the Val Vény.

## Getting there

Turin is about an hour and a half and Geneva around an hour and three quarters through the Mont Blanc tunnel. That tunnel makes a Chamonix–Courmayeur double-centre trip genuinely practical.
