## About Lunada

Lunada is very small — a short run of lifts on the Lunada pass, between the Pasiegos valleys of Cantabria and the Burgos side — and its reason for existing is proximity: it is the closest snow to Bilbao and Santander.

The season is short and entirely at the mercy of the weather. When it is open and cold it is a genuinely useful morning; the rest of the time it is a mountain pass.

## Where lessons start

Fine for a first contact with snow if you happen to live nearby and the pass is open. Always check before setting off — this is the resort in Spain most likely not to be running on a given day.

## Getting there

Bilbao and Santander are both around an hour. The pass road is the only access and closes in bad weather.

## Instructors at Lunada

_No instructors have joined here yet._

## Qualifications required in Spain

Teaching for payment in Spain requires the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3), issued by Ministerio de Educación / comunidad autónoma.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Lunada worth it for learning to ski?

If you live in Bilbao or Santander — both about an hour away — and the pass is open, yes: a short run of lifts with nothing to fear. It is tiny and its season is entirely at the mercy of the weather, so it is the resort in Spain most likely not to be running on a given day. Always check before setting off, and treat it as a first contact with snow rather than a place to progress.
