## About Orelle

Orelle is the fourth valley of the Trois Vallées — the one the name does not count. A gondola climbs from the Maurienne valley floor straight into the Val Thorens sector, which makes this the cheapest door into the largest linked ski area in the world.

There is very little here: a gondola station, some accommodation and a handful of pistes. What there is, is access.

## Where lessons start

Not a place to learn — the beginner terrain is up in Val Thorens, at the top of the gondola. Orelle is a base, and a good one if the budget matters more than the walk.

## Getting there

On the Maurienne valley floor, which means no mountain road: the motorway runs past it and the train stops at Modane. That is unusual for a Trois Vallées base and worth a lot on a snowy Saturday.

## Instructors at Orelle

## Qualifications required in France

Teaching for payment in France requires the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski), issued by Ministère des Sports.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can beginners learn in Orelle?

Not really. Orelle is a gondola station with some accommodation and a handful of pistes; the beginner terrain is up in Val Thorens, at the top of the gondola. It works as a cheap base for skiers who can already get around the Trois Vallées, and being on the Maurienne valley floor means no mountain road and a train stop at Modane.
