## About Pal Arinsal

Pal Arinsal is the family mountain of Andorra, and it is comfortable being that. Two sectors — Pal, wooded and sheltered, and Arinsal, more open and a little steeper — are joined by a cable car, with a gondola up from La Massana in the valley below.

It is considerably smaller than Grandvalira and considerably less crowded, and for a first week that is a feature rather than a limitation. The snowpark is one of the best in the Pyrenees, which gives teenagers something to do while their parents ski greens.

## Where lessons start

Pal is the better side to learn on: the trees break the wind and the light, which matters more than beginners expect on a flat grey day, and the green runs are long enough to actually practise on. The gondola from La Massana means you can stay in the valley and still be on snow in fifteen minutes.

## Getting there

Same as the rest of Andorra: no airport, Barcelona or Toulouse by road, roughly three hours each. La Massana sits close to Andorra la Vella, so it is an easy base if part of the group wants shops rather than slopes.

## Frequently asked questions

### Pal or Arinsal for learning?

Pal. The trees break the wind and the light, which matters more than beginners expect on a flat grey day, and the green runs are long enough to actually practise on. Arinsal is more open and a little steeper, and its snowpark is the draw for teenagers. The two sides are joined by cable car, so a family can split up in the morning and meet for lunch.

### How do I get to Pal Arinsal without a car?

Easily, by Andorran standards. Coaches from Barcelona and Toulouse run to Andorra la Vella in about three hours, the national bus network links the capital with La Massana in a matter of minutes, and from La Massana the gondola takes you up to Pal. Staying in La Massana means no car, no mountain road and snow within a quarter of an hour of the hotel.
