## About Panticosa

Panticosa is the quieter half of the Formigal-Panticosa ticket, and the difference between the two is the point: where Formigal is four big open valleys, Panticosa is narrower, more wooded and far less busy, rising straight out of a stone village rather than a purpose-built base.

Down the valley, the Balneario de Panticosa has been taking the waters since the nineteenth century, which makes it an unusually civilised place to spend an afternoon off the snow.

## Where lessons start

The tree-lined runs are a real advantage on a flat-light day, and the resort is small enough that a lesson does not begin with a commute. The joint ticket means you can learn here and use Formigal's size later in the week.

## Getting there

Zaragoza is about two and a half hours, Pau just over the French border a similar distance. Same Tena valley road as Formigal, turning off before the top.

### Panticosa or Formigal for learning?

It depends on the day. Formigal's Sextas area is the bigger, sunnier beginner sector; Panticosa is narrower, wooded and far quieter, which makes a flat-light day workable and a first lesson calmer. With the joint Formigal-Panticosa ticket you do not have to choose for the week: learn here, use Formigal's size once the turns are there.

### Do the Panticosa slopes start from the village?

Yes. The ski area rises straight out of the stone village, with a gondola from the edge of it up to the slopes, so you can stay in Panticosa itself and be on snow without a shuttle. The Balneario de Panticosa, a short drive away, is the afternoon off. Zaragoza is about two and a half hours, Pau a similar distance across the border.
