Revelstoke has the greatest lift-served vertical drop on the continent — over 1,700 m from the top of the Mt Mackenzie lifts to the base, which is more than any resort in North America and more than most in the Alps.

It sits in the BC interior, far enough from the Pacific that the air has dried out, which is why the snow here is the light, cold powder the coastal resorts do not get. It is a serious mountain: steep, long, heavily treed, and with a lift-accessed backcountry that draws people who already know what they are doing.

The town below is a working railway town rather than a resort village, which some people count as the point.
