## About Santa Caterina Valfurva

Santa Caterina Valfurva sits inside the Stelvio national park a few kilometres from Bormio, and it is the calmer of the pair: north-facing, snow-sure and considerably friendlier for a family than Bormio's single enormous fall line.

It has hosted World Cup races in its own right, and it is on the same Alta Valtellina pass as Bormio and Livigno.

## Where lessons start

This is where families staying in Bormio often come to learn, and with good reason: gentler terrain, reliable snow and far less traffic.

## Getting there

Milan is around three hours up the Valtellina; Bormio is 15 minutes away.

## Instructors at Santa Caterina Valfurva

## Qualifications required in Italy

Teaching for payment in Italy requires the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo, issued by Collegio regionale dei maestri di sci.

## Frequently asked questions

### Should a family stay in Santa Caterina or in Bormio?

For learning, Santa Caterina. It is north-facing and snow-sure, the terrain is far gentler than Bormio's single enormous fall line, and there is much less traffic on the learning slopes. Bormio is 15 minutes away on the same Alta Valtellina pass, so the thermal baths and the Stelvio piste are still there for an afternoon or for the stronger skiers in the group.
