## About Szczyrk

Szczyrk is a long village in a valley of the Silesian Beskids, and since 2017 it has been transformed. Szczyrk Mountain Resort, owned by the Slovak group TMR, rebuilt the old Czyrna-Solisko area with a ten-seat gondola, six-seat chairs and snowmaking fed by a 100,000 m³ reservoir, and since 2018 it has been linked both ways with COS Skrzyczne, the state-run area on the range's highest peak, Skrzyczne (1,257 m). Together they give about 40 km of pistes on a shared pass and more than 700 m of vertical.

Most of the terrain is easy and well groomed, but there is real steepness too: Bieńkula is one of only a dozen or so black pistes in Poland, and Golgota is a classic red. Several kilometres of runs are floodlit for the evening, and the smaller Beskid Sport Arena, elsewhere in the village, adds its own lifts to the same shared pass.

## Where lessons start

Szczyrk Mountain Resort has a dedicated beginner area, MAXILAND, and the chair to Zbójnicka Kopa serves a gentler run for the next step; the long blue runs from Hala Skrzyczeńska are ideal once you can link turns. Szczyrk is the closest big resort to Katowice and Kraków, so weekends are busy and midweek lessons are noticeably calmer.

## Getting there

Katowice is about an hour and a quarter by road and Kraków about an hour and three quarters, and both cities' airports work. The nearest railway station is Bielsko-Biała, 15 km away, with buses up the valley.

By linked kilometres, yes. Szczyrk Mountain Resort and COS Skrzyczne share about 40 km of pistes with more than 700 m of vertical, more than any other Polish area; Białka Tatrzańska and Zieleniec come next, at a little over 20 km each. Kasprowy Wierch in Zakopane is higher, but much smaller.

### Where do beginners learn in Szczyrk?

In MAXILAND, Szczyrk Mountain Resort's beginner area, and then on the gentle run served by the Zbójnicka Kopa chair. Leave Bieńkula and Golgota for later — they are the steepest runs in the area.
