## About Tukino

Tūkino is the club field on the eastern side of Ruapehu, and the access is the filter: the last stretch is unsealed and genuinely requires four-wheel drive. Very few people make the effort.

What is there is rope tows, volunteer-run lodges and an enormous amount of empty volcanic terrain.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I get to Tūkino without four-wheel drive?

Realistically, no. The last stretch is unsealed and genuinely requires four-wheel drive; Turangi is around an hour away. That access is the filter, and it is why very few people make the effort: what waits is rope tows, volunteer-run lodges and an enormous amount of empty volcanic terrain on Ruapehu's eastern side. Go with someone who knows the mountain, and confirm access and the volcanic alert before setting out.
