## About Valdesquí

Valdesquí is the closest skiing to Madrid — around an hour from the city — and everything about it follows from that. It is not large and it is not high, but it is where several million people go when it snows, and on a Saturday in January the car park fills before the lifts open.

It sits inside the Sierra de Guadarrama national park, which constrains what can be built and keeps the setting better than the crowds might suggest.

Perfectly good learning terrain, and unbeatable for a lesson that fits into a day from Madrid. Go midweek if you possibly can: the same proximity that makes it convenient makes weekends genuinely unpleasant, and parking is capped.

### How do I avoid the crowds at Valdesquí?

### Can you get to Valdesquí by public transport?

Only sometimes. The Cercanías line from Cercedilla climbs to the Navacerrada pass and on to Cotos, next to the resort, but it has spent long spells closed for works, so check it is running before you plan around it. Otherwise it is a car up the A-6 and over the pass, with the parking cap in mind, or a taxi from Cercedilla.
