## About Valdezcaray

Valdezcaray climbs the San Lorenzo peak, the highest in the Sierra de la Demanda and in La Rioja, above the handsome mountain town of Ezcaray. The combination is unusual: a genuine ski resort within an hour of some of the best-known vineyards in Spain.

Ezcaray itself, with its arcaded square and old cloth-making houses, is a better base than most resorts of this size can offer.

## Where lessons start

A tidy, manageable mountain for learning, and Ezcaray gives the trip somewhere to be in the evening — which with a family matters more than an extra lift.

## Getting there

Logroño is around an hour, Burgos and Bilbao about two. The road climbs from Ezcaray.

## Instructors at Valdezcaray

_No instructors have joined here yet._

## Qualifications required in Spain

Teaching for payment in Spain requires the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3), issued by Ministerio de Educación / comunidad autónoma.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Valdezcaray good for families?

Yes. It is a tidy, manageable mountain for learning, and Ezcaray below it — arcaded square, old cloth-making houses — gives the trip somewhere to be in the evening, which with children matters more than an extra lift. Logroño is about an hour, so it works as a day from the city. The season depends on cold weather in the Sierra de la Demanda, so check what is open before setting off.
