## About Vallter 2000

Vallter 2000 sits in a glacial cirque at the very head of the Ter valley, above the stone village of Setcases, and it is one of the few places in Spain where on a clear day you can see the Mediterranean from the top of the lifts.

It is small and exposed. The cirque catches snow well but also catches wind, and the upper lifts close more often than at the sheltered forest resorts down the range. What it offers instead is a setting that no big resort can match.

## Where lessons start

The gentle terrain is in the bottom of the cirque, which is also the most sheltered part when it blows. A local instructor earns their fee here mostly by knowing whether the top will open at all that morning.

## Getting there

Barcelona is around two and a half hours via Ripoll and Camprodon. The final climb from Setcases is narrow and exposed; chains are often required after a storm.

## Instructors at Vallter 2000

## Qualifications required in Spain

Teaching for payment in Spain requires the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3), issued by Ministerio de Educación / comunidad autónoma.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Vallter 2000 good for beginners?

For a first contact, yes. The gentle terrain sits in the bottom of the cirque, which is also the most sheltered part when it blows, and the resort is small enough that a family has everything in view. The caveat is the weather: the upper lifts close more often than at the forest resorts, so a local instructor who knows by breakfast whether the top will open is worth having.
