Thirty resorts spread across five distinct mountain systems, from Baqueira Beret's three Pyrenean valleys down to Sierra Nevada, the southernmost major resort on the continent, where you can ski in the morning above Granada and be on the Mediterranean coast by the afternoon. That variety is the reason a good instructor matters here. The Aragonese and Catalan Pyrenees hold the biggest, snowiest terrain and most of the serious skiing. Sierra Nevada is the outlier — a high, sunny, wide-open resort above 2,100 m where the season runs longest.
