About Courchevel
Courchevel is four villages stacked up one mountainside — 1300 Le Praz, 1550 Village, 1650 Moriond and 1850, the famous one — and which you stay in changes the holiday completely, from wooded and quiet at the bottom to the most expensive real estate in the French Alps at the top.
The skiing is the polished end of the Trois Vallées. The grooming is genuinely exceptional, the lift network is dense and modern, and the beginner terrain is the best in the whole linked area — long, wide greens that go somewhere rather than dead-ending. It has a reputation as a resort for people with money, which is true of the restaurants and largely irrelevant to the snow.

Where lessons start
The nursery area at 1850 and the greens down to 1650 are as good as beginner terrain gets in France: properly wide, consistently pitched and free of the traffic that makes learning stressful. Families often base at 1650 Moriond, which is sunnier, cheaper and has its own excellent learning zone.
Getting there
Chambéry is the closest airport at around two hours, Geneva around three. The train to Moûtiers plus a bus is the car-free route. Courchevel also has its own altiport, which is mostly relevant if you are arriving in a way that does not need this paragraph.
Qualifications required in France
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Which Courchevel village should I stay in?
1650 Moriond is the value pick for families: sunny, good learning terrain, much cheaper than 1850 and on the same lift pass. 1850 for luxury and the shortest walk to everything. 1300 Le Praz is wooded, quiet and the cheapest, with a gondola up — good if you do not mind riding it every morning.
