Ski and snowboard instructors in France
Book a state-qualified instructor across 74 French resorts — the Trois Vallées, Chamonix, Paradiski, the Pyrenees and beyond.
Find instructors in FranceFrance has more skiable terrain than any other country on earth, and the numbers stop being meaningful somewhere around the Trois Vallées — six hundred kilometres of linked pistes above Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens, the highest resort in Europe. Add Paradiski, the Portes du Soleil, the Grand Massif and Chamonix, and a single lift pass can cover more mountain than most skiers see in a decade.
Size is exactly why people underestimate what an instructor is for here. In a domain this large, the difference between a good week and a frustrating one is usually not technique — it is knowing which valley holds the snow after a warm spell, which face to ski at two in the afternoon, and how to get across a resort like Val d'Isère without spending an hour queueing. A local instructor sells you their map of the mountain as much as their teaching.
France also regulates the profession more strictly than almost anywhere. Teaching skiing for payment without the diplôme d'État and a valid carte professionnelle is a criminal offence, not an administrative one. Every certified instructor on Alpine Pal has had their qualification checked, and the public register is linked on each profile so you can check it yourself.
The terrain
The Tarentaise valley in Savoie is the heart of it: the Trois Vallées, Paradiski (Les Arcs and La Plagne), Tignes and Val d'Isère, all high, snow-sure and built for volume. Haute-Savoie is the other pole — Chamonix for mountaineering-grade terrain under Mont Blanc, the Portes du Soleil straddling the Swiss border, Flaine and the Grand Massif. The Hautes-Alpes around Serre Chevalier and Briançon are sunnier and quieter for the same money. And then there is everything people forget France has: the Hautes-Pyrénées, the Jura, the Vosges and the volcanoes of the Massif Central, all cheaper, smaller and considerably less intimidating for a first season.
When to go
The high Savoie resorts open around late November and run to early May; Tignes and Val Thorens are the last to close. Lower resorts in the Pyrenees, Jura and Vosges have a shorter, more weather-dependent window from mid-December to late March. The weeks to avoid, or to book very early for, are the February school holidays — France staggers them across three zones, so peak crowding rolls through the Alps for most of the month. Late January and mid-March are the value weeks.
