Sun Peaks is the second-largest ski area in Canada by terrain, and almost nobody outside British Columbia has heard of it — which is most of its appeal. Three mountains, a ski-through village you can cross on skis rather than on a bus, and the dry, cold interior powder that the coastal resorts never get.

What makes it unusual is how evenly the terrain is pitched. There is plenty of steep skiing, but the bulk of the mountain is long, consistent, confidence-building intermediate terrain, and the beginner runs come down from the top rather than being penned into a corner at the bottom.
