3 Zinnen Dolomites - Sexten / Sesto

3 Zinnen Dolomites is the ski area of the Hochpustertal, the high valley in the far east of South Tyrol where the Dolomites meet the Austrian border, and it takes its name from the Drei Zinnen — the Tre Cime di Lavaredo — which stand in view from its upper pistes. The core of the skiing is above Sexten (Sesto): the Helm, Stiergarten and Rotwand have been one linked mountain since the 2014/15 season, when two gondolas closed the gap over the Stiergarten, and together with the Kreuzbergpass they give around 86 km of pistes between 1,130 and 2,225 m.

The smaller Haunold above Innichen and Rienz above Toblach are on the same pass and bring the whole area to roughly 115 km and 31 lifts, but the character is set by Sexten: broad, immaculately groomed reds and blues facing the rock walls of the Sexten Dolomites, and one exception — the Holzriese on the Rotwand, which at up to 71% is the steepest piste in Italy. Toblach, at the other end of the valley, is one of Italy's main cross-country centres and a regular Tour de Ski venue.

The area is part of Dolomiti Superski, so the twelve valleys and 1,200 km of the Dolomites are on the same ticket, and it is one of the few Dolomite resorts with a railway station at the lifts: the Pustertal line stops at Vierschach-Helm, beside the valley station of the Helm gondola.
