About Plan de Corones / Kronplatz

Kronplatz is a single rounded mountain, and the whole resort is built around that shape: the slopes fan out from the 2,275 m summit in every direction, and gondolas climb from three separate valleys to the top.

The grooming is exceptional even by South Tyrolean standards, and the lift density means queues are rare. At the summit, the Messner Mountain Museum Corones, designed by Zaha Hadid, is built into the rock.

Where lessons start

Superb intermediate cruising and reliably prepared beginner terrain. Because every run leads back to the same summit, a mixed-ability group can split at the top and meet again without anyone getting lost.

Getting there

Innsbruck is around an hour and a half over the Brenner, Venice about three. Brunico has a railway station.

Qualifications required in Italy

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Italy is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo. Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Plan de Corones / Kronplatz: common questions

Is Kronplatz good for a mixed-ability group?

Unusually so. It is a single rounded mountain with every run leading back to the same 2,275 m summit, so a group can split at the top — beginners on the prepared learning terrain, stronger skiers on the steeper faces — and meet again without anyone getting lost. The lift density means queues are rare even in February.

Can I get to Kronplatz by train?

Yes, and it is one of the easier Dolomite resorts to reach without a car. Brunico has a railway station on the Pusteria line, reached from Fortezza on the Brenner main line, and the lift bases are minutes away by bus. Innsbruck is around an hour and a half by road over the Brenner, Venice about three.
