About Breuil-Cervinia

Cervinia sits on the Italian side of the Matterhorn — the Cervino, from which it takes its name — at 2,050 m, and almost all of its skiing is above 2,000 m. That altitude gives it one of the longest and most reliable seasons in the Alps.

The lifts climb to the Theodul pass and over into Zermatt, so a day here can cross into Switzerland and back. The terrain is famously wide, long and gentle: superb cruising, and short on genuinely steep pistes.

Where lessons start

One of the best places in the Alps to build confidence: long, wide, gentle pistes with snow you can count on. Prices are also noticeably below Zermatt over the ridge, for much of the same mountain.

Getting there

Turin is around two hours, Milan about two and a half. The Aosta valley motorway runs to the foot of the road up.

Qualifications required in Italy

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Italy is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo. Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Breuil-Cervinia: common questions

Can I ski from Cervinia to Zermatt?

Yes, over the Theodul pass. You need a supplementary pass, decent conditions and enough left in the legs for the return: the crossing is high, exposed and closes in bad weather, and being stuck on the Swiss side means an expensive taxi round by road. Do it the first time with someone who knows the route and is watching the forecast.
