About La Thuile
La Thuile faces north across the Aosta valley and holds its snow accordingly, and it is linked over the Petit Saint-Bernard pass with La Rosière in France — two countries on one ticket.
Its Franco Berthod piste is a World Cup downhill, and unusually for a race hill it runs through forest, which makes the resort one of the better places in the valley to ski when the light is flat.

Where lessons start
Sheltered, reliable and quiet, with the French side to explore once the group is confident. Much less busy than Cervinia or Courmayeur.
Getting there
Turin is around two hours, Geneva about two and a half through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
Qualifications required in Italy
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Italy is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo. Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Does the La Thuile pass include La Rosière in France?
The international Espace San Bernardo pass does, covering both sides of the Petit Saint-Bernard pass; a La Thuile-only pass is cheaper and enough for a first week. The link is high and exposed and closes in bad weather, so when you cross, keep an eye on the time and the forecast — being stranded in France means a long road transfer back.
Is La Thuile good in bad weather?
Better than most of the Aosta valley. The lower mountain is forested — even the Franco Berthod World Cup downhill runs through the trees — which gives definition when the light is flat, and the north-facing slopes keep their snow. The high link to France is the exception: it is exposed and shuts in wind, so on a stormy day stay on the Italian side.
