About Flaine
Flaine was designed in the 1960s by Marcel Breuer, of the Bauhaus, as a total work of architecture — and it is still startling: raw concrete geometry in a high alpine bowl, with sculptures by Picasso, Dubuffet and Vasarely standing in the snow between the buildings.
Opinions on the look are divided. Opinions on the snow are not: the north-facing bowl at 1,600 m is the most snow-sure part of the 265 km Grand Massif.

Where lessons start
Excellent, sheltered beginner terrain in the bowl, holding snow when lower resorts are struggling, and everything is ski-in ski-out. One of the strongest first-week choices in Haute-Savoie.
Getting there
Geneva is around an hour and a quarter, one of the shortest transfers to a high resort anywhere in the Alps.
Qualifications required in France
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Is Flaine a good place to learn to ski?
One of the strongest first-week choices in Haute-Savoie. The north-facing bowl at 1,600 m is the most snow-sure part of the Grand Massif, the beginner terrain is sheltered and everything is ski-in ski-out. Geneva is about an hour and a quarter away.
What does the Flaine lift pass cover beyond the bowl?
The whole Grand Massif, around 265 km shared with Samoëns, Les Carroz and the other villages. The bowl itself holds snow when lower resorts are struggling, so on a lean week the neighbours tend to come to Flaine rather than the reverse.
