They are separate resorts on opposite sides of the pass with separate tickets, which is why most people ski both over a long weekend. Oviedo is about an hour and a quarter to Fuentes, up the Aller valley.

Fuentes de Invierno is the newest of the Asturian resorts, opened on the northern side of the same ridge that San Isidro climbs from León. Being north-facing, it holds cold snow well; being Asturian, it also gets the full weight of the Atlantic weather, for better and worse.

It is compact and modern, and it is often skied together with San Isidro over a long weekend.

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Spain is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3).
