Oberstdorf is the southernmost town in Germany, in the Allgäu Alps, and it is a proper year-round resort town rather than a winter-only base. It is best known outside skiing for its ski-jumping hill, which opens the Four Hills Tournament every New Year.

The skiing splits over several separate mountains. The Nebelhorn gives the longest descent in the Allgäu, over 7 km down to the valley.
