About Port del Comte

Port del Comte is the closest resort to Barcelona, which is most of why it exists and all of why it fills on a Sunday. It sits in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees rather than the main range, so it is lower and its season is shorter and more weather-dependent than Baqueira or Boí Taüll.

What it is very good at is exactly what it is used for: a first day on snow within easy reach of a city, on wide, gentle slopes among pines, without committing to a week in the high Pyrenees.

Where lessons start

One of the standard places for a Catalan child's first lesson, and it shows in how the beginner area is laid out. Go midweek if you can — the same proximity that makes it convenient makes it crowded at weekends.

Getting there

Around 90 minutes to two hours from Barcelona via Solsona. It is the shortest drive to snow from the city.

Qualifications required in Spain

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Spain is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Port del Comte: common questions

When is the best time to ski Port del Comte?

Midweek, after a cold spell. It is the closest resort to Barcelona, so a Sunday fills the car park, and it sits in the Pre-Pyrenees rather than the main range, so the season depends more on cold weather and snowmaking than Baqueira or Boí Taüll do. January and February are the safest months; check what is open before setting off, and a weekday lesson feels like a different mountain.
