About Szklarska Poręba
Szklarska Poręba is the western of the two big resort towns of the Polish Giant Mountains (Karkonosze), strung along a valley below Szrenica (1,362 m). Its ski area, Szrenica Ski Arena, grew from a chairlift built in 1962 and now has about 12 km of runs and eight lifts, with a six-seat chair, the Karkonosz Express, as its spine and around 600 m of vertical.
The signature run is Lolobrygida, a red of almost 4.5 km, among the longest in Poland; the steep Ściana is the test piece. The upper slopes lie in the Karkonosze National Park and are exposed to the wind, which can close the top lifts. Just outside town, Jakuszyce is Poland's best-known cross-country centre and home of the Bieg Piastów race.
