Val di Fassa runs beneath the Sella massif on one side and the Marmolada — at 3,343 m the highest peak in the Dolomites, and the only glacier in the range — on the other. Canazei, at the head of the valley, sits directly on the Sella Ronda circuit.

The valley is Ladin, one of the pockets where the language older than Italian or German is still spoken daily, and the villages have kept their character better than the resorts over the passes.

Where lessons start

Plenty of gentle terrain around the valley villages, with the Sella Ronda to grow into. If the group has a beginner, base in Pozza or Vigo rather than Canazei — quieter, and the learning slopes are closer.

Getting there

Verona is around two and a half hours, Innsbruck about two over the Brenner. Bolzano is the nearest rail connection.
