About Valdelinares

Valdelinares is in the Sierra de Gúdar in Teruel, above the village of the same name — the highest village in Spain. It is a long way from the Pyrenees in every sense: lower, smaller, drier, and entirely dependent on cold nights and snowmaking rather than Atlantic fronts.

What it is, is the nearest snow to a large part of eastern Spain, and a resort built squarely around families and first-timers rather than around vertical.

Where lessons start

Squarely a learners' mountain: short, gentle, well-served slopes and none of the intimidation of a big Pyrenean resort. Check conditions before travelling — the season here leans on cold snaps.

Getting there

Valencia is around two hours and Zaragoza about two and a half. Teruel is the nearest city of any size.

Qualifications required in Spain

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Spain is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Valdelinares: common questions

When is there snow at Valdelinares?

Mostly January and February, and only with cold nights. The Sierra de Gúdar is drier than the Pyrenees, so the season leans on cold snaps and snowmaking rather than Atlantic fronts. Check what is open before travelling — a two-hour drive from Valencia deserves a look at the webcams — and go midweek if you can, because weekends draw much of eastern Spain.
