About Aussois
Aussois is a real village at the gate of the Vanoise national park, the oldest national park in France. It faces south across the Maurienne and gets a lot of sun, and its skiing is modest, wooded at the bottom and open above.
The Barrières de l'Esseillon, a chain of nineteenth-century Savoyard forts, sit just below the village and are worth an afternoon.

Where lessons start
Sunny, quiet and unintimidating, with the village right at the foot of the slopes. A sensible choice for a first week away from the big Tarentaise machines.
Getting there
Modane is 10 minutes, with its station on the Paris–Turin line.
Qualifications required in France
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Is Aussois suitable for a first ski week?
Yes, if you want calm rather than kilometres. The village sits right at the foot of the slopes, faces south and gets a lot of sun, and the skiing is modest and unintimidating. Modane, 10 minutes away, has a station on the Paris–Turin line, and the Esseillon forts below the village fill a rest day.
