Coronet Peak is the closest ski field to Queenstown — 25 minutes from the town centre — and the only one in the region that runs night skiing, which makes it the default after-work mountain for locals and an easy half-day for visitors.

The terrain is more consistently pitched than The Remarkables and gets steeper from the top than its reputation suggests. The views over the Wakatipu basin are the best of the Queenstown fields, and it has the most extensive snowmaking in New Zealand, which matters in a country where natural snowfall is unreliable.
