About Górka Szczęśliwicka

Górka Szczęśliwicka is Warsaw's only ski slope, in Szczęśliwice Park in the Ochota district, a few kilometres south-west of the city centre. The hill is man-made: after 1945 the rubble of the destroyed city was piled up here, a rubbish dump followed, and in 1967–1970 it was covered with earth and turned into a park. Raised by another 14 m in 1997, it stands 152 m above sea level, the highest hill in Warsaw.

The skiing is one blue run of about 227 m with 44 m of vertical, and a gentle practice area at the bottom. It is laid with a Dendix artificial mat, sprayed with water when it is above freezing and covered with machine-made snow when it is cold, so the slope used to be open all year, floodlit in the evening. It is run by the city's sports centre, Aktywna Warszawa.

The slope was closed for the whole 2025/26 winter while its lifts, snowmaking and lighting were replaced. In August 2026 the city terminated the contract with the builder over delays; it wants to reopen during the 2026/27 winter, but as of October 2026 it has not given a date.

Where lessons start

It is a place to start: the practice area at the bottom and the short, steady run suit first lessons for children and adults, and they are just as useful for brushing up before a trip to the mountains. Being in the city, it fits a lesson after work or school. On the mat, wear gloves and long sleeves whatever the weather: a fall is rougher than on snow.

Getting there

The slope is at ul. Drawska 22 in Ochota, a few kilometres south-west of the centre of Warsaw: a short trip by public transport or taxi. Warsaw Chopin Airport is about 5 km away.

Qualifications required in Poland

Poland has no state teaching licence. The professional standard is the SITN PZN instructor card (SITS for snowboard), and Alpine Pal shows what each instructor actually holds so you can judge it for yourself.

Górka Szczęśliwicka: common questions

Is Górka Szczęśliwicka open?

Not yet. The slope was closed for the whole 2025/26 winter while its lifts, snowmaking and lighting were replaced. In August 2026 the city terminated the contract with the builder over delays and says it wants to reopen during the 2026/27 winter, but as of October 2026 it has not set a date. Check with your instructor before you book.

Can you ski at Górka Szczęśliwicka in summer?

Yes, when the slope is running. The run is laid with a Dendix artificial mat that is sprayed with water above freezing, so before the works it was open all year, not just in winter. It is good practice in the off-season, but a fall on the mat is rougher than on snow: gloves and long sleeves are a must.
