Les Contamines sits in its own dead-end valley beneath Mont Blanc, which is why it is quieter than Megève twenty minutes away and why it holds snow better: the valley is north-oriented and shaded, and the resort has a reputation as the most snow-sure of the Mont Blanc villages.

The village itself is unspoilt, and the Contamines-Montjoie nature reserve above it is one of the finest ski touring areas in the massif.

Qualifications required in France

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.
