About Megève
Megève exists because a Rothschild decided in the 1920s that France needed its own St. Moritz, and the village that grew from that has kept the character: cobbled streets, horse-drawn sleighs, and a restaurant scene out of proportion to its size.
The skiing is gentle, wooded and spread across three linked massifs, part of the 400 km Evasion Mont-Blanc area. It is not a mountain for the ambitious; it is a mountain for cruising with Mont Blanc in front of you.

Where lessons start
Excellent, unhurried learning terrain, and the tree cover makes it one of the more comfortable places in the Alps on a grey day. A classic choice for a family that wants the village as much as the skiing.
Getting there
Geneva is around an hour and a quarter, one of the shortest transfers in the Alps.
Qualifications required in France
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.
Find instructors in FranceMegève: common questions
Is Megève good for beginners?
Very. The learning terrain is gentle, wooded and unhurried, and the tree cover makes it one of the more comfortable places in the Alps on a grey day. The lift pass covers the Evasion Mont-Blanc area, around 400 km with Saint-Gervais and Les Contamines, so there is room to progress all week.
How far is Megève from Geneva airport?
About an hour and a quarter, one of the shortest transfers in the Alps. That makes it practical for a short break, and it is also why weekends are busier than midweek.
