Limone Piemonte is one of the oldest ski resorts in Italy, with skiing here since the 1900s, and its Riserva Bianca area sits in the Maritime Alps barely an hour from the Ligurian coast.

That closeness to the sea gives it a particular snow pattern: when a storm comes off the Mediterranean, Limone can get buried while the inland Piedmont resorts get nothing.

Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Italy is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo. On a different rhythm from the rest of Piedmont. Limone sits in the Maritime Alps barely an hour from the coast, so when a storm comes off the Mediterranean it can get buried while the inland resorts get nothing — and the reverse happens too. Check the forecast rather than the calendar. The Riserva Bianca area has good, varied terrain for learning, and Limone has a railway station on the Cuneo–Ventimiglia line, so it works without a car.
