About Pontedilegno-Tonale
Ponte di Legno–Tonale straddles the Tonale pass between Lombardy and Trentino, and above it the Presena glacier rises to nearly 3,000 m. That glacier is why the season here runs longer than almost anywhere else in the Italian Alps.
The pass itself is wide, open and treeless; Ponte di Legno, down in the Val Camonica, gives the wooded lower half and a proper village.

Qualifications required in Italy
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Italy is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo. Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

How long is the season at Passo Tonale?
One of the longest in the Italian Alps. The pass itself is high and open, and the Presena glacier above it rises to nearly 3,000 m, so skiing typically runs from late autumn well into spring. That makes it a strong choice for a first week in late season, when lower resorts are struggling — with the caveat that the treeless plateau is exposed when the weather turns.
Where should a beginner stay, Ponte di Legno or Passo Tonale?
Passo Tonale for the skiing: the learning terrain is wide, gentle and right there, with snow you can count on. Ponte di Legno, down in the Val Camonica, is the proper village with more life and the wooded lower slopes, linked to the pass by lift — better for evenings, and the place to ski on a windy day. Both are on the same pass; the choice is convenience against atmosphere.
