Bormio is 15 minutes away on the same Alta Valtellina pass, so the thermal baths and the Stelvio piste are still there for an afternoon or for the stronger skiers in the group.

Santa Caterina Valfurva sits inside the Stelvio national park a few kilometres from Bormio, and it is the calmer of the pair: north-facing, snow-sure and considerably friendlier for a family than Bormio's single enormous fall line.

It has hosted World Cup races in its own right, and it is on the same Alta Valtellina pass as Bormio and Livigno.
