Sella Nevea records some of the heaviest snowfall in Italy — the Julian Alps catch moisture coming up from the Adriatic and wring it out here — and it is linked by cable car with Kanin in Slovenia, the only cross-border ski area between the two countries.

The Slovenian side is high and treeless; the Italian side is sheltered and wooded. On one pass you get both.
