About Solda / Sulden
Solda sits at 1,900 m beneath the Ortler, at 3,905 m the highest mountain in South Tyrol, in a cirque ringed by glaciers and more than a dozen three-thousand-metre peaks.
The altitude makes it one of the most snow-sure resorts in the region, and the setting is closer to high mountaineering country than to a typical ski village. Reinhold Messner's mountain museum in the valley is worth an afternoon.

Where lessons start
Reliable snow at the learning slopes late into the season, and a mountain setting that few resorts of this size can match.
Getting there
Bolzano is around an hour and a half. The Stelvio pass road above is closed all winter, so access is from the Venosta valley.
Qualifications required in Italy
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Italy is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Maestro di sci, registered in the regional albo. Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Until when can I ski in Solda?
Later than almost anywhere in South Tyrol. The village sits at 1,900 m beneath the Ortler, with lifts climbing well above that among glaciers and three-thousand-metre peaks, so the learning slopes keep reliable snow into spring when lower resorts have closed. In winter access is only from the Venosta valley — the Stelvio pass road above is shut — with Bolzano about an hour and a half away.
