About Świeradów-Zdrój
Świeradów-Zdrój is a spa town in the Jizera Mountains, close to the Czech border, and its skiing is essentially one mountain and one run. An eight-seat gondola, opened in 2008, climbs in about seven minutes to the shoulder of Stóg Izerski, and a single 2.5 km piste with more than 400 m of vertical comes back down: steep at the top, flatter in the middle and testing again near the bottom.
The run is floodlit every evening, and the base has a beginner lift, a small snowpark and a toboggan run. A second, black run has been marked for years but stays closed to protect the black grouse that live on the mountain. The Jizera Mountains are also well known for cross-country skiing.

Where lessons start
Beginners use the short lift by the lower gondola station. The main run is mostly intermediate and steep at the top, so it is a goal for later in the week rather than a first day.
Getting there
Wrocław is about two and a quarter hours by road and Jelenia Góra about 45 minutes. Since 2023 trains run again to Świeradów-Zdrój from Gryfów Śląski, with connections towards Jelenia Góra and Wrocław.
Qualifications required in Poland
Poland has no state teaching licence. The professional standard is the SITN PZN instructor card (SITS for snowboard), and Alpine Pal shows what each instructor actually holds so you can judge it for yourself.

Is Świeradów-Zdrój a good place to learn to ski?
For a first day, only just. There is a short beginner lift by the lower gondola station, but the main attraction is a single 2.5 km run that is steep at the top. It suits a skier who can already manage a red, and the evening floodlights make it a good place to put in the mileage.
