About Zieleniec

Zieleniec is a high part of Duszniki-Zdrój, at around 900 m on the eastern slopes of the Orlické Mountains, right on the Czech border. Its reputation rests on its microclimate: cold air and north-facing slopes keep snow on the ground for close to 150 days a year, longer than almost anywhere else in Poland.

The ski area is a dense web of short runs, about 22 km of them, served by close to 30 lifts on one pass, including several fast chairs and a combined chair-and-gondola, the Skyway Express. The vertical is modest, under 300 m, but there is a lot of variety for its size, a snowpark, and night skiing on most of the slopes.

Where lessons start

With dedicated teaching lifts and plenty of short, easy runs, Zieleniec is one of the easiest places in Poland to learn, and its snow record makes it the safest bet for a lesson early or late in the season. Weekends bring day traffic from Wrocław.

Getting there

Wrocław is about two hours by road, the last stretch a climb from Duszniki-Zdrój, 11 km below, which has a railway station on the line from Wrocław via Kłodzko.

Qualifications required in Poland

Poland has no state teaching licence. The professional standard is the SITN PZN instructor card (SITS for snowboard), and Alpine Pal shows what each instructor actually holds so you can judge it for yourself.

Zieleniec: common questions

Why is Zieleniec known for its snow?

Because of its microclimate: at around 900 m in the Orlické Mountains, with north-facing slopes and cold air, it keeps snow on the ground for close to 150 days a year, longer than almost anywhere in Poland. Snowmaking covers the gaps, which makes it the safest choice for a lesson in December or late March.
