About Espot Esquí
Espot sits at the gateway to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, the only national park in Catalonia, and the setting is the reason to come: granite peaks, glacial lakes and the kind of high Pyrenean landscape that the bigger resorts down the valley do not have.
The ski area itself is modest and quiet, which suits it. It shares a joint ticket with Port Ainé, so a week here gives two mountains without the crowds of either Baqueira or the Cerdanya.

I love the mountains and really enjoy teaching children to ski. My approach is entirely hands-on and tailored to them: we learn by playing and enjoying the snow right from the very start. I make sure they feel comfortable, safe and keen to come back the next day.
Where lessons start
Small enough that a lesson starts within minutes of arriving, and quiet enough that a beginner is not dodging traffic. A good choice for a first week when the point of the trip is also the valley itself.
Getting there
Barcelona is around three and a half hours via the Noguera Pallaresa. The village of Espot is a few kilometres below the lifts.
Qualifications required in Spain
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Spain is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3). Can you visit the Aigüestortes national park on a ski trip to Espot?
Yes, and it is the reason to come. The village is the eastern gateway to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, Catalonia's only national park, and private cars do not enter: in winter the way in is on snowshoes or touring skis, or with the local 4x4 taxis when the road is open. It makes a far better rest day than anything the bigger resorts down the valley can offer.
