About Port Ainé
Port Ainé climbs the slopes of the Orri peak above Rialp, and almost all of it runs through pine forest. That is its distinguishing feature and its practical advantage: when the light goes flat and the wind gets up, the trees give you something to read and something to hide behind, while the open bowls elsewhere in the range become unskiable.
It is a quiet, family-shaped mountain, and it shares ownership and a joint ticket with nearby Espot.

I love the mountains and really enjoy teaching children to ski. My approach is entirely hands-on and tailored to them: we learn by playing and enjoying the snow right from the very start. I make sure they feel comfortable, safe and keen to come back the next day.
Where lessons start
Good, sheltered beginner terrain, and the forest setting makes a first week much less daunting than a treeless bowl. The joint ticket with Espot gives a second mountain without a second purchase.
Getting there
Barcelona is around three hours up the Noguera Pallaresa valley; Lleida is closer at about two. The access road from Rialp is long but well maintained.
Qualifications required in Spain
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in Spain is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Técnico Deportivo en Deportes de Invierno (TD1/TD2/TD3). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.

Why is Port Ainé good on a bad-weather day?
Because almost all of it runs through pine forest. When the light goes flat and the wind gets up, the trees give you contrast to read the slope and shelter to hide behind, while the open bowls elsewhere in the Catalan Pyrenees become unskiable. For a first week that matters more than beginners expect: a grey day here is still a workable day.
Does the Port Ainé pass work at Espot?
Yes. The two resorts share ownership and a joint ticket, so a week here gives two mountains without a second purchase. They are not linked on snow: Espot is a separate drive further up the Noguera Pallaresa valley, so plan it as a change of scene for a day rather than a lunchtime crossing.
