About Les Arcs
Les Arcs is four villages named after their altitude — 1600, 1800, 1950 and 2000 — climbing the mountainside above Bourg-Saint-Maurice, and joined to La Plagne by the Vanoise Express into Paradiski.
It is the more interesting mountain of the Paradiski pair. The Aiguille Rouge at 3,226 m gives one of the longest continuous descents in the Alps, over 2,000 m of vertical down to Villaroger, and the lower slopes run through real forest, which makes bad-weather days workable in a way treeless resorts cannot manage.

Where lessons start
Arc 1800 is the usual family base and has good, accessible learning terrain. Arc 1600 is quieter and wooded, reached by funicular straight from the Bourg-Saint-Maurice train station — the single most car-free arrival in the Tarentaise.
Getting there
The funicular from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Arc 1600 takes seven minutes and connects with the TGV, including the direct trains from Paris and the Eurostar ski service. By road, Geneva or Lyon in about three hours.
Qualifications required in France
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.
