Peisey-Vallandry sits at the hinge of Paradiski: the Vanoise Express, the double-decker cable car that joins Les Arcs to La Plagne, leaves from here. That puts 425 km of pistes within reach of a village that has kept its old church and its scale.
The skiing here is through larch forest, which makes it one of the better places in the Tarentaise to be when the light goes flat.

Where lessons start
The Vallandry side has friendly, wooded learning terrain and far less traffic than the Arc 1800 nursery slopes. A good compromise between a village stay and a big-area lift pass.
Getting there
Bourg-Saint-Maurice is about 20 minutes, and it takes the TGV — including the direct trains from Paris.
Qualifications required in France
Teaching skiing or snowboarding for payment in France is a regulated profession: an instructor must hold the Professional card (diplôme d'État de ski). Instructors listed as certified on Alpine Pal have either sent theirs to us for review or are vouched for by the ski school that invited them.
